MMBA has been in communication with Ellen Udovich from BCMD regarding ongoing hurricane relief efforts. As we witness the devastation through images and stories, we know that MMBA churches are eager to make a difference.
Below is the most up-to-date information on ways to assist, with the understanding that additional opportunities will emerge once the immediate crisis phase has passed.
1. Disaster Relief trained individuals are the current need on the field. Get Disaster Relief trained now. BCMD has ongoing training throughout the year.
2. North Carolina Baptists on Mission has opportunities to sign up to volunteer. We are looking at long-term help needed. As your church starts to think of 2025 missions, hurricane relief may be a wonderful option.
3. North Carolina and South Carolina State Conventions are looking to set up long-term rebuilding projects where a church can sign up for a week with projects to include housing, meals, construction, but these will likely not be in place for a couple of months.
4. Send Relief donations are welcome, and currently, monetary gifts are best. There is a Prayer Guide on the website that could be shared with your church body.
5. Churches wanting to collect items for church distribution may work through the NC Baptist Convention per the information below. Needs will continually change and update, therefore, it may be helpful to contact Pastor Jeff for a list of items of greatest need.
IN-KIND DONATIONS
Monetary donations are always the best form of help for disaster relief efforts. Money can be transformed into anything needed! If, however, you would like to donate other items, North Carolina Baptists ask that you follow the list of needed items below. Donations can be delivered to First Baptist Church of Brevard, NC. Please contact Pastor Jeff Maynard to schedule delivery: jeff@fbcbrevard.org.
– Hygiene items (soap, shampoo, sanitary items, etc.)
– Baby products (diapers, formula)
– Cleaning supplies (shovels, mops, paper towels, trash bags, etc.)
– Canned food, manual can openers, ready to eat food
– Paper Plates, Paper Bowls, Spoons, Forks, etc.
– NO CLOTHING please!
MMBA will keep you apprised as we learn of opportunities to be on mission as information becomes available. If you learn of an opportunity not shared, please let us know as well.
