Passport

If you do not have a passport that is valid through January 2021, we ask that you postpone traveling until the fall or next year, and obtain or renew your passport in the meantime. Due to the length of time required for passport processing, there is not sufficient turnaround time to guarantee the arrival of your passport and mandatory Kenyan visa for travel in Summer 2020.

Registration

Registration forms will be available online shortly.  All payments are to be made by check.  Please indicate “Kenya Summer 2020 Missions Trip” in the memo line and mail your check to “Baptist Convention of MD/DE, P.O. Box 829697, Philadelphia, PA 19182.”

All participants must register individually and provide the information requested on the registration form.

Visas

The BCM/D will process visas for all travelers.  The application process requires a physical photo in addition to the photo in your passport.  Please see and follow Kenya’s specific guidelines for visa photos.

The copy of your passport information must include the biographical and signature page (copied onto the same page) and be in full color.

Please include a check for $51.00 to cover the cost of the visa.

Hand-deliver or mail (by certified mail) the copies of your passport and visa photo to: Rosalie Chesley, Assistant to the Executive Director, Baptist Convention of Maryland and Delaware, 10255 Old Columbia Road, Columbia, MD 21046.  Due to visa regulations, we are not able to accept scanned copies of your passport information or visa photo.

We must have hard (color) copies of your passport and visa photo in hand by no later than May 1 to allow for adequate processing time.

Immunizations

The Kenyan government requires that inbound travelers obtain a yellow fever vaccination and present proof of vaccination at the border. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that travelers be current on all routine vaccinations and consider other special vaccines corresponding to diseases found in Kenya. Lists of suggested vaccines and yellow fever vaccine clinic locations are available on the CDC’s website. Except for the yellow fever vaccine and other immunizations required by United States law, other vaccines can be obtained at the discretion of individual travelers. However, please allow sufficient time to obtain these vaccines prior to departing for Kenya.

Passport Health is a good resource for yellow fever vaccinations and has multiple locations throughout Maryland and Delaware

You must forward a copy of your yellow fever proof of vaccination to Rosalie Chesley (rchesley@bcmd.org) by May 18.

Travel Insurance

BCM/D is using Gallagher Charitable International Insurance Service’s plans to provide coverage for the teams while in Kenya. Volunteer Travel Insurance is $3.30 per diem per traveler, and includes emergency medical evacuation. Additional medical coverage is available at a reasonable cost. Gallagher also offers Trip Cancellation & Interruption Insurance, at a rate of $5.20 per diem per traveler. The Volunteer Travel Insurance is mandatory. Additional medical coverage and trip cancellation insurance can be purchased at the discretion of the participant.

BCM/D will provide enrollment forms and further information on the policies to committed participants.

Please forward a copy of your proof of insurance to Rosalie Chesley (rchesley@bcmd.org) by May 18.

Flights

BCM/D recommends the following flight schedules for all participants. They are roundtrip from BWI to Kisumu, Kenya. If you would like to book a different set of flights, please make sure the timeline for arriving in and departing from Kisumu is similar, as all BCM/D travelers will be taken to and retrieved from the airport at the same time. You must forward a copy of all flight confirmations to Rosalie Chesley (rchesley@bcmd.org) by May 18.
