On March 14, 2020 from 8-11AM, Dr. Don Whitney will be leading our MMBA annual prayer breakfast.
The need for resolute prayer is greater than ever. Pew Research recently published an article entitled, In U.S., Decline of Christianity Continues at a Rapid Pace. This article is based on compiled data from 88 studies polling over 160,000 people over the past 10 years.
The article noted,
“65% of American adults describe themselves as Christians when asked about their religion, down 12 percentage points over the past decade. Meanwhile, the religiously unaffiliated share of the population, consisting of people who describe their religious identity as atheist, agnostic or “nothing in particular,” now stands at 26%, up from 17% in 2009.”
I expect this comes as little surprise to those reading this as we have seen this secularization in our churches, our families, our communities, and our country. We have also seen the painful results of millions turning away from God. We have seen the broken families, the pervasive addiction problems, the rapid rise of mental health problems, and the spiritual emptiness of lives lived without purpose.
Though the numbers show an ominous trend, they also reveal an incredible opportunity. All around us are thousands of people who did not grow up in church, and who have not heard the good news of Jesus Christ. In Matthew chapter 9 Jesus gazes upon the crowds after having travelled all throughout Israel. On one occasion he looked upon the crowds and saw that they were, “harassed and helpless like sheep without a shepherd” and he had compassion on them. Then he turned to the disciples and told them what to do, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38)
We invite you to join us to pray for a harvest of souls. We will be praying for God to raise up more laborers to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our communities. By joining with us on March 14 you will be equipped and challenged to continue praying throughout 2020 for the salvation of the lost and for life-changing discipleship in our churches.
This event is open to all pastors, church leaders, church members, and anyone else you would like to bring. Be on the lookout for registration information on the MMBA website and Facebook page starting in January 2020. Bulletin inserts and flyers will be sent out to MMBA member churches in January.
